The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA) among the fastest growing occupations through 2030. Employment as a CCMA is is projected to grow 18%- much faster than the average job ranking! Washington County Community College is offering a Certified CCMA course that prepares students to provide quality clinical care to patients and assist in administrative tasks in a healthcare setting. Students will learn general clinical patient care procedures, medical office skills, the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, phlebotomy, medical law and ethics, and more. Upon successful completion of the CCMA course, students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam. Learn more here.
Washington County Community College and Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center have joined forces with partners, to bring you Workforce training in Aquaculture. This program has been developed with funding from a USDA Agricultural Food & Research grant in partnership with the Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center, and is grounded in numerous organizational and industry partnerships which will be key to delivering the industry designed programming. Students will have the opportunity to start careers in the aquaculture sector statewide, as well as transfer into four-year programs. Learn more here.
University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a six-session 4-H Nature in Focus SPIN Club for Washington County youth ages 9 –18 beginning July 26 from 4–5:30 p.m. at Downeast Coastal Conservency’s Middle River Park, Machias. Remaining dates are Aug. 2, 9, 16, 25, and 30. Participants will explore the outdoors through photography, environmental education, outdoor recreation, and creative expression. Each session will begin with a photography lesson followed by a hike with a chance to practice new skills. The club is free; registration is required. University of Maine Cooperative Extension wild blueberry field days continue with a focus on fresh pack line improvements 10 a.m.–noon July 7 at Welch Farm, 186 Roque Bluffs Road, Roque Bluffs. This fresh pack line meeting includes a cold storage demonstration and discussion of berry quality related to new equipment installed in 2021 by Welch Farm owners Lisa and Wayne Hanscom. Lily Calderwood, UMaine Extension wild blueberry specialist and assistant professor of horticulture, leads the meeting. The event is free; registration is requested.
