Pathways to Employment for Justice Involved Folks

Washington County Community College & the Community Caring Collaborative have linked arms to bring you Pathways to Employment for People Who are Justice Involved. This FREE, virtual 5-week, 1-credit course, presented by Abby Frutchey, LMSW, LADC, CCS from November 7th to December 7th every Monday and Wednesday, 3 – 4:30 pm, will explore job seeker rights and how to address barriers, connect with helpful resources and experts, and map a path to meaningful employment.  Download this flyer for details.

Virtual MATCH Training this Month

Children’s Home and Community Treatment Clinicians are invited to register for a free, virtual training in the Modular Approach to Therapy for Children (MATCH) 9 am — 4:30 pm, October 24-28, 2022. This program is presented by Jessie Fitts, Ph.D., staff psychologist and implementation associate at The Baker Center for Children and Families, and Rachel Kim, Ph.D., Director of Implementation/Associate Director of Training through The Baker Center for Children and Families’ Quality Care Initiative and a staff psychologist at the Center for Effective Child Therapy.  Register here.  Download this flyer for details.

TSLCA Quarterly Connection Forums

The Tri-State Learning Collaborative on Aging invites you to save these dates for our quarterly connection forums for different provider groups across northern New England. These forums provide people running similar programs – either all-volunteer, with full staff and models in between – an opportunity to share programmatic updates, secure peer-to-peer support for shared challenges, and network with others across the region. We hope you will join us for these upcoming calls – and please spread the word to folks who may be interested in engaging and learning more!

Winter Clothing Drive

The Sunrise Opportunities Prevention Council’s 2022/2023 Clothing Drives begins October 17th. Do you have gently used winter clothing (boots, mittens, snowpants, jackets, hats) that you no longer need? We will take it! Please drop off at 232 Court Street, Machias (round blue building). Please put all donations in the tote box outside of the building. We appreciate your generosity as we hope to help many families in our community. Do you work with a family in need of winter clothing? Turkey-a-Thon Raises Over $39,000!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of community members across Washington County, Healthy Acadia’s 18th Annual Turkey-A-Thon was a huge success. Over $39,000 was raised, exceeding their fundraising goal of $36,000, and more donations are coming in.  All funds raised will be distributed to local community food security organizations.

VA Family Caregiver Program Expansion

Beginning Oct. 1, caregivers of combat veterans who served from the mid-1970s to late 2001 can apply for health care and benefits under the Department of Veterans Affairs program for families.

The inclusion of veterans who served from May 7, 1975, to Sept. 11, 2001, in the Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregiver Program completes an expansion that began in 2020 to include injured veterans of all eras who need daily help and supervision.
