This week the CCC Wednesday Communique takes a hiatus while the editor is off doing election work. In lieu of our usual newsletter, we bring you this message saluting local veterans. All over Washington County special events have been planned to commemorate this national holiday, and here are just a few:

MVNO Special Veterans Day insert

The Machias Valley News Observer, which just won 18 awards at the Maine Press Banquet, dedicates an entire spread to Washington County veterans the week of Veterans Day, printing their photos and short bios about their service.

Bay Ridge Veterans Luncheon

Bay Ridge Elementary School in Cutler is holding a veterans luncheon on November 10th for all past and present members of the armed forces, and posts names of deceased veterans on their commemorative wall.

Machias Schools Veterans Day Program

All veterans and their families are invited to a breakfast at Rose M. Gaffney on November 10th at 11 am, followed by a veterans tribute in the Machias Memorial High School gym at 9 am, featuring live music from our chorus and band students, and other special tributes to our local Veterans.

Washington Academy Veterans Day Celebration

All veterans are invited to the Gardner Gymnasium at Washington Academy on November 9th for a celebration with musical performances and light refreshment.
