Happy Wednesday!
New this week:
Join Out Maine for a free, professional development training on January 25th and 26th at 3 different sites around Washington County (snow dates Feb 8th & 9th). See flyer for times and locations. This training is designed for anyone who works with youth. It will provide a foundational understanding for those who are new to working with LGBTQ+ youth, as well as updated and in-depth information for those who are looking for a refresher. During this training participants will review: terminology and pronoun usage; risk and protective factors, supporting transgender and gender-expansive youth, student rights, intervening in harmful behavior, creating inclusive forms, and navigating facility needs. This training is based on our published Best Practices for LGBTQ+ Inclusive Programming. Register here.
- Such assistance programs include the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP) and Low-Income Assistance Program (LIAP). Applications for both LiHEAP and LIAP are administered by your local Community Action Partner (CAP) agency. The Legislature is currently considering a winter energy relief package. For those who need heating assistance in the meantime, the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides money to help low-income homeowners and renters pay for heating costs. Applications for the HEAP program are also taken at your local CAP agency. You can apply for fuel and energy assistance now through July 15, 2023, at your local CAP office found here.
- Another program to aid those with imminent or emergency needs is the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP). This program provides emergency fuel deliveries and minor heating system repairs to help avert an energy crisis. ECIP is also administered by the local CAP agencies with a deadline of April 30, 2023 to apply.
- For a complete list of energy and heating assistance programs available, visit the Public Utilities Commission’s website.
