Effectively Communicating Across Barriers
The Community Caring Collaborative and Working Communities Challenge invite you to an impactful morning workshop with national poverty expert Dr. Donna Beegle on September 13th, from 9 am to 12 Noon. In this 3-hour, in-person training, Dr. Beegle uses activities to engage service providers, leaders and educators to explore the impact of life experiences on communication styles and provide a framework for improving communication and relationships with people who live in the war zone of poverty. Washington County Community College is hosting this event in their St Croix Lecture Hall (Gym building). Morning refreshments and Contact Hour Certificates will be provided. Maine Roads to Quality is excited to be in the midst of planning for our 4th annual fall conference at WCCC in Calais! We are hoping to provide clothing support, food access, hot meals, connection to educational services, information about housing, information about COVID testing and vaccines, child care resources, and tables for agencies to share their information. We are asking for organizations/agencies that participate to assist us in: Setting and clean up of the event, welcoming people as they come in, taking on a role at the food or children’s table, ensuring workers understand your program, and sponsoring a hot meal if you can. Washington County Adult & Community Education is are seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic English Language Teacher to join their team. As an ESL teacher, you will be responsible for planning, implementing and delivering effective English Language lessons and Citizenship classes to students at various levels and backgrounds. Your primary goal will be to foster a positive and engaging learning environment, helping students develop English Language skills in listening, reading, speaking, writing and digital skills when needed. The position is also required to do intake/testing with new and returning students. Position is up to 25 hours and requires some travel (mileage is paid).
