MCWE 29th Annual Conference

Registration is open for the 29th Maine Child Welfare Education Conference at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on June 27th.  Keynote speaker is Scarlett Lewis, founder of Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement.  See finalized flyer for all details.

At Pine Tree Camp, children with developmental and physical disabilities experience freedom, independence and life-changing experiences through barrier-free access to the outdoors and connection with peers.  Choose from:

Maine Shared CHNA Focus Group

Downeast Community Partners will be hosting a discussion on Tuesday, June 21st, 10 — 11:30 am at 7 Ames Way, Machias, as part of the Maine Shared Community Health Needs Assessment to gather your input on health in your community, including strengths and challenges, and exploring ways to make improvements.  Stipends and snacks will be provided to participants.  See flyer for details.

Hospice Volunteer Training

2024 Rhubarb Festival

The third annual Rhubarb Festival is happening on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Kendall Farm in Perry from 12-5 pm. Don’t miss this authentic Downeast Maine event featuring local art, music, and rhubarb delights! Live music by Oatmeal Bear, craft vendors, family-friendly activities, and the famed rhubarb stalk eating contest await. Admission is by donation. No smoking, vapes, or pets are permitted. 33rd annual Cobscook Bay Races
3 ways to participate:
  1.  In-person  SUNDAY, June 2 –  Run or Walk from the Triangle to Reversing Falls in Pembroke.  Specific race day instructions will be sent June 1st via email. Online registration will Open at 7 am January 1st, 2024. Online registration will close at 5 pm on Saturday June 1st, 2024.
  2. Run on Your Own (ROYO) – Run/walk the Course Between Saturday May 21 and June  2 – submit a time and picture of your run/walk via email or on runsignup.com/cobscookraces
  3. Virtually – Run/walk in support of Cobscook Bay races wherever safe and convenient for you. submit a time and picture of your run/walk via email or on runsignup.com/cobscookraces

Proceeds go to Down East Hospice Volunteers.


Prevention Council Playgroups
  • Machias area: The Sunrise Prevention Council is excited to announce that our Machias Area Playgroup has started up at the Machias Playground on Salem Street, Machias.  This group meets every Friday at 10 am.  Download a flyer to share.

May StoryWalk®

For the Month of May 2024, the StoryWalk® at Porter Memorial Library in Machias will feature the children’s book, The Vegetables We Eat, by Gail Gibbons. Celebrate the arrival of the spring planting season with this engaging exploration of various vegetables, from planting to harvesting and consumption. Through vibrant watercolor illustrations and clear explanations, Gibbons takes young readers on a journey through the colorful world of vegetables.  Learn more here.
