Updates on programs, research, initiatives and pending legislation

CCLC is now Cobscook Institute

Cobscook Community Learning Center (CCLC) in Trescott was created more than 20 years ago to find ways to improve life in the rural region of Downeast Maine. As the organization grew and matured, it developed into something far more than a community learning center, and they believe their name should reflect that. The name change also comes with a complete rebranding, bringing all of the organization’s divisions into alignment with the organization and each other.

The new Cobscook Institute logo includes three waves, which represent the three nations the organization serves: Passamaquoddy, American, and Canadian. They also represent the three mutually supporting divisions of the organization:

WellMed is now offering free Caregiver Teleconnection sessions. These are hour-long learning sessions done over the phone with experts from around the country providing information and guidance on topics pertinent to caregiving. These sessions also provide an opportunity for caregivers to ask questions, and hear from other caregivers. Click HERE to learn more about WellMed’s Caregiver Teleconnection sessions.

This March, WellMed is also having a special series on Understanding Medication Safety at no cost to participants. It is a series of three sessions covering topics such as watching for drug interactions, what to expect with hospital discharges, and how to best manage your medications. Click HERE for a flyer with more information on the series. Participants will receive a workbook to go along with the calls.

CCC’s Winter Weather Cancellation Policy

With winter comes snow and ice, making driving hazardous.  The Community Caring Collaborative always puts participant safety first, so when considering whether to attend a CCC event during iffy weather, play it safe.  If there’s a Zoom option, take it!  Our policy is to follow the school district’s closing/delay decisions in the locale of the event.  For meetings and trainings in Machias, AOS 96 is the school district.  If the school is closed, we will cancel our event.  If the school is delayed, we will delay a morning event by 2 hours and hold an afternoon event. If there is an early dismissal, we will cancel afternoon events. You can always consult our facebook page for the event in question where we will announce any cancellations or delays.
