Tools for Change Registration
April 17 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Community Caring Collaborative invites you to a new training on April 17th, Tools for Change: Understanding Substance Use and Supporting Safer Choices, presented by Abby Frutchey, LMSW, LADC, CCS. The practice of harm reduction has evolved significantly, offering a comprehensive approach to creating safer outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. Join us for a 3 hour in-person, partner-wide training that will examine the core principles of harm reduction through interactive methods, including case studies, discussions, and practical applications. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding harm reduction as a vital component of substance use recovery interventions, highlighting how these practices meet people where they are while fostering pathways to improved health and well-being. Participants will also explore foundational substance use and recovery knowledge, including recognizing multiple recovery pathways, reducing stigma through person-first language, and promoting dignity in their work. Participants will gain strategies and tools to effectively integrate these practices into their work with students, families, and community members affected by alcohol and substance use disorders. Download a flyer to share.
This training will be held in Science 102 at the University of Maine Machias, from 9 am to 12 Noon. Please arrive early for some delicious morning refreshments and to get comfortably settled. Participants will receive a certificate for three contact hours upon completion of the digital post-training evaluation. Registration for this training will remain open until April 10th.
